Seaweed Tag at New Brighton Beach

BLOG 3  (Thurs/Fri…)

New Brighton Beach is socked in.  It is cold and damp.  I love Santa Cruz in the winter.  It is unpredictable.  Tomorrow it could be a sunny 70 degrees, but today it is cold.  We have walked from New Brighton to Sea Cliff (the home of the cement ship). A distance of maybe 1 ½ miles each way.

KT and I played seaweed tag.  For the uninitiated, the rules are as follows:  One person is “It” and attempts to tag the other(s) with a piece of seaweed.  The seaweed may be swung or throw.  If someone accidentally steps on a bit of seaweed s/he is automatically it.  There are no bases.  You must keep running.  And running.

Lesson learned:  eight year olds have boundless energy.  I do not.  Be sure to take plenty of ‘time outs” to conserve energy.  Also, long whips of seaweed can be thrown quite a distance when necessary.
